Listening: Shopping and clothes

Here are two short videos of people discussing shopping and fashionable clothes. They speak very quickly but the words are shown on the video.

Listen to the videos first without looking at the words. How much can you understand? It's important to try and listen to the number of words. On the streets of Manchester, people speak very fast so you will not always be able to understand everything: you just need to understand the main idea, the gist.

Remember that when people speak, they often don't use the correct grammar. This is because we don't always know how we will end the sentence when we start speaking. We also often think of new things to say, or change our minds when we are speaking, so our grammar is not always accurate.

When you watch these videos, concentrate on listening rather than grammar. Make a note of any new vocabulary and try and use the new words in your own conversation. What do you think are the best and worst things about shopping where you live?
